Copyright protects various works, including literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works, films, sound recordings and broadcasts and also drawings for industrial articles. Copyright can extend to artistic logos, product packaging and literature.

Copyright is an unregistered right which arises on creation of a relevant work and there is no official register in the UK. In most countries, copyright is established as soon as the particular work is created and is tangible, for example a novel or compact disc.

Copyright entitles a party to prevent others from copying a work, issuing copies to the public, performing, showing, or broadcasting the work in public.

We can advise as to whether Copyright subsists in a particular work and the duration of protection. We can advise with regard to copyright infringement and advise about possible actions and remedies.

The term of copyright protection depends upon the nature of the work and we can advise you about the relevant terms for each kind of work.
